The New Moon Through The Houses

Spark Astrology

Every month the Sun and the Moon come together, sprinkling our thoughts and emotions with a burst of creative energy. New Moons bring fresh starts, perfect for planting seeds and turning our eyes to the future. Steeped in darkness as it crosses the space between Earth and the Sun, the New Moon encourages us to look within and connect with our unexpressed wishes. This is not a time for action yet, but for wading through and birthing intentions.

When the Moon is invisible, it signals that all that came before has been cleared, and it’s time for a new beginning and a new awareness. Full of energy and zeal, new ideas abound, inner desires surface, the vision is vivid, yet not quite defined. Not a time for action yet, this is a time of instincts, dreams, and spontaneity. We are forming goals and intentions, not cohesive plans and rational ideas. We are in tune with what we want and what we need.

Over the next four weeks what started as the germ of an idea begins to take root, with themes reflecting the symbolism of the house of our chart in which the New Moon falls. Any natal planets or points similarly aspected will shape the experience further, some positively, others less so. The creative process finally peaks or ends six months later, when a Full Moon takes place in the same zodiac sign and near the same degree.

Track the position of the New Moon in your chart, and any aspects to other planets and angles, to gauge which area of your life is being rebooted, and how significantly. What follows is a generic explanation of the New Moon through the houses. For a thorough assessment of what possibilities lie before you, why not book a private consultation with me or a written report?

First House

This New Moon marks a new beginning that affects you on a very personal level — whether it’s experiences, feelings, or external events. It’s the battle of the ego versus others, of autonomy versus dependency, of following one’s path regardless of obstacles. The need to focus on yourself is now stronger, whether in terms of looks, how you present yourself, the impact you make on others, or your general direction in life. New ideas abound, your priorities are shifting, and you have a strong desire to do what is right by you.

Second House

Your values, finances, and sense of self-worth are experiencing a reboot. This is likely about your disposable income, with new opportunities coming your way or a strong desire to increase your earnings. It could also signal an important new purchase or investment. Be open to change in this sphere of life, ask yourself “how” questions to open the door to novel approaches and solutions, then plan a budget and follow it though to get what you want. Your self-estimation is also set to improve as a result of your new initiatives.

Third House

Your focus is now on short-term priorities, such as communication and short trips. Perhaps a new idea results in more writing or speaking commitments. Or you benefit from a turning point related to a document, email or telephone call. There is more activity with people in your immediate environment, such as siblings or neighbours. You may also need to go on a trip, perhaps something you hadn’t planned.

Fourth House

Renewed focus on the home, family, or living situation. Are you planning to move, enhance, or renovate your place? Are you inspired to build stronger foundations for your life? Plans for a better work/life balance start taking shape. You may want to spend more time with your family, maybe with your parents, and open up more about deep emotions. Your intuition is also stronger at this time.

Fifth House

Love is in the air, so plant the seed of romance or nurture a creative project. The time has come for taking better care of number one. Going out and having fun is especially enjoyable at this time. This is also the house of children and hobbies, so expect a lot of activity in these areas of your life.

Sixth House

A new beginning for health, daily routine, work, and habits. Your wellbeing takes centre stage, be it physical or mental. Plan a healthy routine that will help maintain strength and flexibility. This could be a great time to start a fitness regime. The sixth house also rules pets and colleagues or employees, so something could come up with them.

Seventh House

The New Moon marks a new beginning in your relationships — be it business or romantic. A new partnership may be on the horizon, or a new contract may be needed. Or perhaps it’s simply an opportunity to improve your relationships of all types. Time to plan for the future with a partner in mind.

Eighth House

The way you deal with joint finances, pensions, tax, loans and mortgages is changing. This may be a good time to put in place plans that provide more security for you and your loved ones. It’s a time of transformation, and sometimes this may prove difficult and intense, but worthwhile. Deep emotions and issues of power and control may come to the surface.

Ninth House

The focus is on long-term priorities. Are you planning a trip abroad? Or re-visiting your philosophy of life? Perhaps you’re pondering on a higher course of study, or teaching, writing, publishing, marketing, or legal work. Whether of the body or the mind, you crave new horizons to bring more meaning into your life.

Tenth House

A plan is about to hatch for your career, vocation, or status in the world. Significant opportunities may present themselves. This New Moon could foreshadow career advancement, a change in your life path, or somebody new in a position of authority. There is renewed zeal in this area of life. Remember to schedule some downtime with family, too.

Eleventh House

Plans for more time with friends get under way. A new circle of friends or business network may present itself. It’s a good time to join a new organization or group. You may feel more sociable, tolerant, and communicative, with a keen focus on the bigger picture. Your long-term aspirations may be revisited, or new ones formed.

Twelfth House

You have an overwhelming need to be alone, take a backseat, and focus on your inner life. The time is ripe for some therapy, introspection, or to deal with suppressed emotions. Not a time for high energy and action, but one for dreams, inspiration, diving into the subconscious, and recharging. Secrets may be revealed, and intuition heightened. Use this time to recharge in preparation for more action at the next New Moon.
